Judge-watch
I heard Senator Conrad from North Dakota say that Alberto Gonzales would get 70 to 80 votes to confirm if nominated. So I guess the worst case scenario for a conservative like my self is Alberto. Life could be worse.
It seems Alberto has been on the administrations short list for quite some time here
Speaking of the first hispanic Supreme Court Judge, what about the Honorable Senator Mel Martinez from Florida. Conservative enough for you hard righties out there?

Disturbing happenings in the world of free trade?
Are the Chinese trying to blackmail us with a trade war? I hear on radio news that the Chinese are theatening to start a trade war with the United States over the proposed Chinese buyout of an American "big oil" company. It seems the congress is asking the president to block any purchase of Chevron Oil Co by the Chinese. I hope it doesn't come to that, but if necessary the president should absolutely block this purchase. I say CNOOC can bid for Chevron when the Chinese government sells its controlling shares in CNOOC.
This discussion leads to the even broader question of the National debt and the National deficit.
Does the deficit matter?
Read here for an opinion that I don't necessarily agree with. It is a good start for the future research to follow.

Let the games begin...
So now the battle for the judges can really begin. Hopefully President Bush will choose a stong conservative judge from the many great people he can now choose from. ABC News: O'Connor Steps Down from U.S. Supreme Court The President must appoint a stong conservative judge to replace the sometimes iffy Justice O'Connor. This appointment can tip the scales of justice back into the favor of the Constitution.
Do the democrats have the backbone to raise the extraordinary circumstance argument for any of the choices? The even more important question, do the slippery seven join the party they came with or do they become traitorous. The fight we should have had 2 months ago is about to begin. We (conservatives) whould have surely won it back then. I hope we win it now!
