Disturbing happenings in the world of free trade?

Are the Chinese trying to blackmail us with a trade war? I hear on radio news that the Chinese are theatening to start a trade war with the United States over the proposed Chinese buyout of an American "big oil" company. It seems the congress is asking the president to block any purchase of Chevron Oil Co by the Chinese. I hope it doesn't come to that, but if necessary the president should absolutely block this purchase. I say CNOOC can bid for Chevron when the Chinese government sells its controlling shares in CNOOC. This discussion leads to the even broader question of the National debt and the National deficit. Does the deficit matter? Read here for an opinion that I don't necessarily agree with. It is a good start for the future research to follow.
